FIVE GENERATIONS OF INNKEEPERS
The name "Winter Clove" first appeared on the original map made of the Catskill Mt. area following the Revolutionary War. When the surveyors ran their lines through this clove, or valley, they found the ice and snow of Winter had not given away to Spring as it had in the surrounding areasthus, the designation "Winter Clove." |

Then, in the early 1800s, as travel increased on the Hudson River, and naturalists, sightseers and visitors were attracted to the beautiful Catskill Mountains, H.B. Whitcomb opened his farmhouse, located on the Winter Clove grant of land, to summer guests. Thus, the beginning of five generations of innkeepers.
The natural beauty that attracted the first visitors still greets the Whitcomb's guests today. The Winter Clove is a charming, resplendent inn providing a wide variety of resort activities. The Inn has maintained a tradition of fine food, lodging and sincere hospitality for over 150 years.
